Date and Time: Tuesday 23 February 2021, 15:00-16:00 CET

Cost: Free of charge

Speaker: Modesto Orozco (IRB Barcelona)

Description:

At a time where we thought major threats for human health would never come from infection diseases, CoVid-19 has shown us how fragile we are, both as individuals and as a society to infections originated from viruses that were kept cryptic in exotic animals for centuries. Virus emergencies hit us with an expansion rate faster than our ability to find cures and generate a sense of panic in the society. CoVid-19 is being a nightmare, but we cannot neglect a few positive aspects in the current situation, one of them, the impressive multidisciplinary response of the scientific community that not only focuses on finding treatments, but also is sharing all the information.

Molecular simulation techniques are becoming crucial in the multidisciplinary approach to fight CoVid-19 and thousands of groups around the world are running simulations on CoVid-19 systems. Many of these researchers, including Modesto Orozco and his team, are using high performance computer (HPC) centres, such as the ones that are part of the ICEI/Fenix Research Infrastructure, as well as expert support services provided by the BioExcel Centre of Excellence for Computational Biomolecular Research. In this webinar, Modesto Orozco will give a summary of some of the CoVid-19 related projects his team is involved in, with special focus on the ones using Molecular Dynamics (MD) and HPC infrastructures.

Who should attend?

  • Scientists interested in CoVid-19
  • Molecular simulators using HPC centers
